Loyal, compassionate and introverted.

2.   How do you think others would describe you?

Well, my husband would probably describe me as moody, chatty and a bit obsessive compulsive. I do have this habit of straightening things.

3.  Please tell us what you are most passionate about outside of writing.

That would be music because I am also a musician. I played in bands for a long time before writing, but writing lyrics helped me to take that next step in my life.

4.  Do you have any pets?  If so, introduce us to them.

Yes. I have two dogs. One is a Chi-Weenie that thinks he is a Pitbull, and an American Eskimo that is so intelligent she lets him think he is the boss when in reality she is the alpha dog.

5.  What is your most precious memory?

My memories of being in a band are the ones I cherish the most. The girls in my band were like sisters to me and I miss that a lot.

6.  What is your most embarrassing memory?

I can't really think of one, but I had many embarrassing moments when I used to drink too much alcohol and act stupid. I always cringed at the memory the next day while I nursed a hangover. Fortunately, I do not have clear memories of those times. 

7.  If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing with your life?

I might still be involved more in music or I might be doing nothing constructive with my time at all. I think writing has saved me from wasting my life.
 

8.   In two paragraphs or less write your obituary.

Her life was never boring, having played in rock bands and later becoming a published author. Besides music and writing, she loved animals and supported animal rights. She is survived by her husband, two dogs, and her many children--her songs and her works of fiction.

9.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?

When my first manuscript was accepted for publication. It felt good to have someone believe in my writing.

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

I have been really busy. I have a short story coming out March 2008 in an anthology from Freya's Bower titled In the Gloaming: An Anthology of Faery Stories. I am very excited about that because this is my first anthology. In 2009 I have two books scheduled for release from Awe-Struck. The first one is the prequel to my Of Water and Dragons and Ravenwolf books called Night's Daughter. The title is another name for the Greek Erinyes and the Roman Furies. This story is a different telling of the conflict between the Titans and the Olympian gods and also about the origins of the mysterious Tuatha de Danaan of Ireland. The second book is the first book in my Dark Goddess trilogy, which is set in sixth century Scotland. I am currently working on books two and three of that series.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

First I have to finish my Dark Goddess trilogy. I have no idea what I am going to write after that. I have been kicking around some ideas, one of which is a fantasy romance set in ancient Greece.

12.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

I usually write for a couple of hours in the morning, take a lunch break, and write for a couple of more hours in the afternoon. When I am full of ideas and on a roll, I will work non-stop.

13.  Why do you write?

I have all of this creative energy that I have to release or I go crazy. I also love doing research and learning about obscure times in history.

14.  What writer most inspires you?  Why?

I have a lot of favorite writers, but I think Marion Zimmer Bradley inspired me the most. Her Mists of Avalon was a unique take on King Arthur and I like writers who take chances like that.

15.  How do you define your writing?

Lyrical and emotional.

16.  In one sentence-what do you want people to say about your writing in fifty years?

Hopefully something nice like she didn't follow trends, but wrote from her heart with an eye for a unique approach to romance.

I also think sex scenes reveal a lot about a character so I always try to incorporate that in my romances. I am a storyteller who tries to write a compelling story to draw the reader into my world of romance, conflict, fierce warriors, bold women and otherworldly creatures. Read my books if you desire an escape from reality and tales that will incite your most inner emotions.

It's the strangest thing, people either adore me or they're afraid of me! I don't get it.

Being my son's mom, and my work- I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner, and I work at a clinic for people without health insurance. I do good work every day, for people who deserve the very best care I can give them.

No, thank goodness. Unless a teenaged son would be considered...?

5. What is your most precious memory?

When I held my son for the first time- he was wrapped up in a white blanket like a tiny loaf of bread, with his red hair sticking out the end, and he looked exactly like I knew he would look. My heart's never been the same.

6. What is your most embarrassing memory?

About two hours before I held my son for the first time- the cord prolapsed, then the baby's heartbeat was dropping. So I was on my hands and knees on the gurney, and the midwife was holding the cervix, with her hand inside my vagina- (yes, that is what I mean) and my bare ass was sticking up from the hospital gown, and they were racing through the halls of the hospital to the OR- at the hospital where I worked. Lordy Lordy. But all was well.

7. If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing with your life?

I always wanted to run a small bookstore. If I did, I would be reading instead of writing.

9. Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?

I published a flash fiction story at the online journal Flashquake, and a short story at Word Riot in the same month. I figured if two different editors wanted to publish my stories, I was on the right track.

10. What is going on with your writing these days?

I'm writing something very exciting and different for me- a serial Western pulp called The Curse of the Guadalajara Rose. It has lots of action and violence, no romance at all, and it has cliff hangers at the end of each chapter. I'm really learning a lot about writing action.

11. What are your future goals for your writing?

I guess my goal is always the same- to have each story I write be better than the last one.

I usually have some story element I'm working on- conflict, or using humor, or plotting and writing action. I also don't want to be known as being able to write one thing. I want to have the skills to write anything. I think readers know when writers are giving it their best. I want to keep giving my best, and having that get better and better with each story.

12. Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

I work at my day job from 0800-1200, home by 1:00. I write from then until five or six, and if the story is going well, my kid can throw together a couple of pb&j's for dinner and I'll write until bedtime. Some weekends I work at the clinic, and some I write- it's good to go do something real. Keeps my sense of perspective intact.

13. Why do you write?

I like to tell stories. I think fiction, the ideas that come out in storytelling, can change people, can heal people. Ideas can change the world, and for me, the best ideas come out in the stories.

14. What writer most inspires you? Why?

I really love Jim Harrison and Sherman Alexie- they both love stories, love people, believe in people, despite all evidence. And they both seem to have their sense of humor intact. And the care they take with the writing- I feel the same way. It's important, being a writer. Readers deserve the very best.

15. How do you define your writing?

I'm not sure I can- but I think I'm about the storytelling. Let me tell you a story.

The same as #1. My nickname is "Kare-Bear". And <grin> I think they would add the descriptive STUBBORN!

Humanity. I think we're in a "bad" place right now and we all need to realize that there is a solution as long as we can manage to "come together".

"Sweet Pea" is a toy poodle who is spoiled beyond redemption! She thinks she was a Princess in a former life and thus should still be treated like one.

Uh Oh! Has anyone ever answered THIS question honestly?? Okay, my most recent was when I stayed all day at the Mall shopping. I kept getting stares. I thought: "hmmm. This blouse color must look good on me." Turns out that I later discovered my jeans had a RIP in the butt and my panties were showing through! Argh!

I always wanted to be an Archaeologist. The idea of discovering parts of History are really fascinating.

9.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?

When I wrote my first "story" in 2^nd grade after reading "The Hobbit". Mine was more romantic, so I thought it best if I made sure that romance played a part in every story! I told everyone my romantic story was going to be famous one day!

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

I'm in the middle of editing three separate books. My first book, "Temptation Unleashed" is being Re-released May 2008 with Samhain Publishing. My second, "Hunted Mate" is being released in June 2008 with Black Lyon Publishing. My third, "Seducing The Hero" has just been accepted by The Wild Rose Press for Summer 2008 publication. Next, I'm plotting out ideas for a trilogy.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

I HOPE to write ALL the stories running around in my imagination, eventually, and see them all published.

1)      Get Up.  2) Make the coffee.  3) Fight with Sweet Pea and keep insisting that she does NOT need a huge breakfast.  4) Turn on computer.  5) Answer all emails.  6) WRITE, WRITE, WRITE.

It keeps me sane! LOL! Actually, I have never wanted to do anything else for as long as I can remember. It's a wonderful, fulfilling experience to bring stories, and characters, to life.

14.  What writer most inspires you?  Why?

I am a member of NARWA (Northern Arizona RWA) and we have two prolific authors: Rita Rainville and Joan Elliott Pickart. They're dear friends whom I admire so much. I tell them all the time: "I wanna be like you when I grow up"! Rita has this wonderful talent of bringing characters to life, and Joan can make a story read like a movie. If I can accomplish both those talents with my own writing, then I'll be happy.

15.  How do you define your writing?

I've been told it's sensual and page turning! I have a quote on my website from a reader who says it's "unique and has the feeling of old world era yet in modern times." I think that's what makes my Paranormal plots different from others.

I try to make all my characters as life-like as possible and each story/plot unique. I hope readers will enjoy my books and look forward to my future ones.

Ah, pulling out the old character sheet here - well, let's see... I see myself as something of a Perfectionist, though not always successfully achieving that. I am definitely a Workaholic, throwing myself into everything 150%. And I try to be conscientious and kind.

2.   How do you think others would describe you?

Most people see me as emotional, tense, and good at reading people, with lots of empathy.

3.      Please tell us what you are most passionate about outside of writing.

My family, my intimate friends, and being "present" with them as much as possible.

 Hershey, who is 5, is a Basset Hound mix, and ASPCA rescue. He's absolutely adorable, unconditionally loving, and very actively playful. Loves playing fetch and wrestling and leaping for his rope bone.

5.  What is your most precious memory?

I have a lot of precious memories, but I don't think I can, or should, name a most precious one. I like to think life is a series of precious memories and each is just as important as the last, and the next. I'm not trying to avoid the question. It really is a philosophy with me. If you make one thing your most precious memory, that could diminish others later or before or falsely imply to outsiders that you have a certain point of view, or a new memory has the power to displace another "at the top". Nah. Not for me. It's all good, even great.

6. What is your most embarrassing memory?

On the other hand, embarrassing memories ARE for ranking, so you never, ever do them again. I fell asleep in Chem class in high school, absolutely nose down, sound asleep in the middle of the lecture. The teacher came through the classroom, stopped right next to my desk, continuing to lecture, and simply raised his voice right next to me. I startled so badly I fell out of my desk onto the floor. NO ONE made a sound. That was not the most embarrassing fact. This was: the teacher? MY OWN FATHER. Everyone was waiting to see what he would do to me. I was written up. My one and only discipline referral in high school. (I'd gotten one previously in junior high, but that's another story.)

7.   If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing with your life?

I'd have to find some way to write, but if I really couldn't be a writer in any way, I'd probably be a counselor, or a teacher.

Lara Zielinsky died yesterday in the fullness of old age, having spent her life growing in experiences, lovers, and friends until the very last. She penned more than two dozen novels, and more than forty short stories, adding to the world with unforgettable characters of amazing grace. According to her close friends, dozens of whom showed up to see her ashes put in the cargo hold of the latest Mars mission launch, this was very much a reflection of who she was personally.

The first time someone told me my writing was publishable. I was 16, in Boston, taking a workshop with the fiction editor of the Boston Globe.

I've been following the sales of my first novel, finishing the sequel, and planning the first two novels in a series I'll tackle next.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

In the short term, I'd like to finish the sequel and see it through to publication. Long term - I'd like to arrange my life for a little more writing time, to be able to invest professional-level priority in it.

I write in the early mornings, before the rest of my family is awake. Also, on lunch breaks at work if I get them.

To be honest, I am inspired by everything I read, and read a lot, though not as much as I would like. Vivid, emotional journeys which are part drama, part adventure, part romance, a reflection of life.

20.  For new readers-what can they expect when they read your book(s)?

I hope readers find escape and enjoyment in my stories of love between women, with full lives, trials and triumphs, and Happily Ever After. Readers will find third person intimate point of view; I don't write in first person. After finishing, they should expect to feel as if they've walked in a fictional someone else's shoes. And according to many past readers, they should be expecting to stay up all night to finish the longer stories.

There's a romantic style to my language. I'm not into hip "happenin'" slang, or endless comedies of errors. I write adventure and life of the every day sort, so don't expect super spies or rogue cops. I have a little fascination with the duality of life that actors can get into, but acting/Hollywood is a setting, not the main thrust of the stories. I generally don't have partners who are similar ages, or even similar stages in life. I don't live in a Mecca of Gayness, like San Francisco, or even South Florida (to pick someplace closer to home) so don't expect stories in which everyone's queer, or the characters hang out in single-sex only places constantly. And definitely my characters come from all the stages of life.

I always want my writing to reflect the world as I see it and that's pretty balanced. People have beautiful lives, and I really like that. Probably my journalism background coming out. I used to write Feature stories, and finding the littlest things about people fascinating in order to conduct an interview was a required skill.

I also want to write in a way that paints a picture, though not a rigid, paint-by-numbers type of image, rather a familiar scene where the reader fills in the minute details according to their experiences, and the rest is an emotional painting. You can see the tension, feel the source of the fear, see the hesitation and the love as vividly as if you were seeing it on your own partner's face, and know its source intuitively. If I make a heart beat faster, not because I wrote "her heart beat faster" but because the situation resonates and you can tell that her stumbling language and the faint trace of sweat tickling down the nape of her neck shows you her heart is pounding faster, then I've done what I want to do with my writing.

And finally, I want readers to know I do not "crank out stories". Eventually I'll get to everything, but it is the perfectionist in me that slows me down. I hope the reader finds the time worth it, with every story I write. With every story I write, I want to learn something more as well. So no rehashing tired themes with me from work to work. The same sex scene will not appear in four stories, with only the names and faces changed.

My cat is named Q (after a star trek character who is omnipotent). She was born deaf with albino features (pure white, pink undertone and very light sensitive). She's a spoiled housecat who thinks the world revolves around her...and while she can't hear a word she can make a lot of noise when she wants to be heard.

At my grandmother's home when I was a little girl and she was alive.

I write erotic romance...the research can be very interesting and X-rated and that's all I'm sayingJ

By day I'm an accountant so I'd still be doing that and have a lot more free time.

Cheryl Dragon died New Year Day, eighty five years to the date of her birth. She is survived by her sister, nieces, and nephews as well as her collected works of writing. I got a "real" accounting job after college and found not writing made me frustrated and anxious. I need the creative outlet. I knew I was a real writer when I found the erotic romance genre and people really responded.

Where do I start? A lot of erotic romance is coming in 2008. I'm booked with EC through December!

In January I released Vegas Style, a contemporary about a wedding planner in Vegas who doesn't believe in marriage but men are good for only one thing.

I am imaginative, fun, and quirky.

2.   How do you think others would describe you?

Some friends think I'm really private when actually I'm always willing to talk about anything. I'm always ready to answer questions but not quick to share my troubles unless I know you really well. One friend describes me as the lady who carries crazy purses around and wears crocheted shawls all the time. I do love purses and have over 75 of them. My husband says I'm a flower child.

3. Please tell us what you are most passionate about outside of writing.

This would have to be spending time with my family and numerous pets. I love playing board games, spades, and going to the drive-in movie where we tailgate and play dominoes. Anytime I get to spend with my family is fun. I also love working on my family history. I've traced mine and my husband's family back to the 1600's. Everything before that is pretty much overseas and harder to get access to.

4.  Do you have any pets?  If so, introduce us to them.

I have so many. Let me run down the list first and then I'll talk about them. I have three German Shepards, two cats (at the moment, one is pregnant), two hermit crabs, and two rabbits. I started out with one cat, her name is Moon and she was a stray. She's had several litters and everytime I take her to get fixed she's pregnant again- working on that. I kept one of her kittens this last time- he is Siamese and so pretty. I did manage to get him fixed. He sleeps with me and likes to be held like a baby. He even likes his stomach rubbed! Oh, I did have one dog before Moon came along. He chased her up in a tree and that's how I ended up with her- I ‘saved' her from the tree. Haha My dog's name is Thunder. We acquired a female shephard and named her Star. She was homeless. A few months after they met Star and Thunder had puppies- 14 of them! Wow, I know. We sold a few, they were trained as protection dogs, and gave the rest away. We did keep one male and named him Rocky. I love hermit crabs because they are so easy to take care of. The rabbits are not so easy but fun to play with and enjoy. I walk them on a leash sometimes.

5.  What is your most precious memory?

I would have to say that my most precious memory is one of the many memories I keep tucked away about my son when he was younger. He's grown now and has a baby of his own. I cry if I think about it. Do you know the book I'll Love You Forever? It so makes me think of him but I cry every time I read it. (And he still lives with me!)

6.  What is your most embarrassing memory?

I should have checked the rating on this interview. Hmm, but since I didn't I'll make this one G. I tried one of those self tanners once and it wasn't working fast enough for me so I slathered it on over and over and over again. I was meeting friends and family at a restaurant and showed up orange. I kid you not. I never did tell them why I was orange; I just acted like I'd gotten too much sun that day! Haha

7.   If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing with your life?

I work in education during the day full-time. I would love to write full-time but teaching children is dear to my heart as well. I am so the jack of all trades. I could list a hundred jobs I've had and still have more to tell you about. I like variety in my life and I've certainly had it. 

8.  In two paragraphs or less write your obituary.

She touched so many lives. I know that she didn't regret a thing and it all worked out in the end! Now- everyone meet at Shorty's bar for a drink and karaoke on Tuesday- call in sick a friend just died for goodness sakes!

9.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?

I don't know that I'm there yet. I am a writer but everyone has different versions of what a "real" writer is. I am definitely an author of many stories and thoughts along with a few poems. I thought maybe when I'm published or when I'm paid or when I get a fan letter...For me writing has stepping stones just like any other career. I don't want to reach the end; I want to have a grand adventure along the way to an unknown destination.

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

I just released a short romantic comedy over at Whiskey Creek Press called ‘Love Angel'. It's part of their "My Funny Valentine" anthology. http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/ My story is one of four that will have you laughing and wondering at each romantic turn. My main character Maurice is the Gilligan of love angels and clumsy as they get. His challenge: couple two humans at or before the Sadie Hawkins Dance or become a death angel. Come along for the adventure...

Next month I have an erotic fairy tale being released by Dark Eden Press called ‘Goldi'. http://www.darkedenpress.com/  This is a twist on Goldilocks and the Three Bears (football bears that is). This story takes a step into the BDSM lifestyle and will sizzle your eyeballs off! Keep in mind, this story is not for the faint of heart.....

I have several submissions I'm waiting to hear about and over ten more works in progress. I am trying to put a lot of focus on print publishers right now but I will still submit to epublishers as well. I think ebooks are the wave of the future with everyone going green.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

I want to see my name, and my stories, in print. I love ebooks but there's nothing like holding a book in your hand that you wrote. (so I'm told)

I'm hoping that will help build my writing career. I have business cards now!! I want to move into writing as my full-time career within the next few years. My ultimate goal is to travel, write, and take my laptop and ipod with me!

12.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you?
 

After I get home from work and do laundry and cook dinner and play with the pets and watch television with the family and they all go to bed- then I write. I am a night person so that works for me. I also write on the weekends and on my days off. I have to be really organized to keep up with things.

13.  Why do you write?

Simply put because I have to. I have all of these stories in my head and I need to get them out to readers. I write in many different genres including m/f, f/f, sweet romance, sizzling hot sexy romance, and even poetry. These are the types of things that I like to read and write. I am a creative person. I went to art college out of high school. I need an outlet to put my talents to good use. I plan to start painting again soon and may even try to create a few book covers on my own. I will definitely start making book trailers soon.

14.  What writer most inspires you?  Why?

I've loved reading since I could pick up a book. I always wanted to read books that I had to hide under the covers with a flashlight. I read V.C. Andrews when I was younger and Judy Blume. There are so many good authors I couldn't possibly pick. I don't think another writer inspires me; I inspire myself. I don't want to model my writing after someone else's but I sure love to read their books as well as my own. I review for several different sites and love it! I will say that I love sensual descriptive writing by any author.

15.  How do you define your writing?

My writing is ‘me' Every story I write is a part of me. Each character I create is a part of me. I am inspired by dreams, friends, family, and people watching at the mall. I use every facet of my life to create nerve-tingling stories that make partners want to spend more time with one another.

16.  In one sentence-what do you want people to say about your writing in fifty years?

In fifty years I hope my great-great-grandchildren will be reading my stories and saying, "Wow, Grammi was a hotty!"

Being a nurse which I is my day job. I love taking care of the elderly. I think we have so much to learn from our ancestors but most of us are always too busy to listen.

Raven Starr lies behind three wonderful children and a wealth of friends and family. She was not only a writer touching our hearts but her words of poetry entangled into our very soul.

Not just writer, a mother to all children, friendly or non- friendly. Her compassionate, gentle free being will be missed. She was our voice in the darkness. Now she is our light.

9.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?
 

Honestly, I've been writing since I can remember, but the first time I knew I was writer had to be when I received my first contract. I was blow away (I still am). I am humbled by this experience and only hope that I can touch someone and let them know that love is all we need.

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

Well I'm working on two different stories. I'm working on a vamp story and another romantic, longer story.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

My future goals include getting an agent and to get my books into print. I love to have books in the hands of anyone that would like it; I know I would faint to hold a book with my name on it.

12.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

Depending on whether my kids are home so I'll give ya both versions.    No kids- after dropping my boys, I come home, fix a steaming cup of dark chocolate Mayan coffee(yup it tastes as good as it sounds) sit in front of my computer. I try to write when the mood strikes me or write in the genre that calls my name. But if my kids are home, now well that's another story. With chasing them around and stopping the constant fighting I still write, not as much, but they help me focus and keep my eyes on the prize.

13.  Why do you write?

I write because it soothes the raging monster in my brain. Writing is apart of me, so I could never see myself not writing something, if not stories then poetry. My muse is twisted so I love delving into the colorful world that is known as, my imagination.

14.  What writer most inspires you?  

My inspiration comes from my journey in this life and the lessons that I've learned thus far.  I've seen things and I've had experiences in my life where I've realized how precious living life is. So I try to do what makes me feel good and writing makes me very happy. Why? I heard once, in looking for a career choice, you should chose to do something that you makes you happy and would do for free.   I write because I love it. I believe that we are all born with some talent and when we find out what this talent is, we should use it. I've missed many opportunities in life, so now I smell the roses, so to speak. Life is too short to live in the darkness of the world's hate and sometimes all we need is one light. I hope to be that light for at least one person. If I can, then I'm happy to have been able to bring light and love to them.

15.  How do you define your writing?

Wow, okay personally I think my writing is romantic. Being a hopeful romantic to heart, I make sure there is romance in my stories.

I would love for people to say my writing touched them that I opened or showed something, within themselves that they couldn't see before.

 Protective, Imaginative, Outgoing

2.  How do you think others would describe you? 

Hopefully they'd see me as the same and would enjoy hanging around with me.

My family, especially my children. I love them and want to keep them safe and happy. In the world today that isn't always easy or possible but I try my best.

We have two dogs now. We had a third but our beloved Shadow passed away last year along with our three year old Beta fish. Now we have Liz: an 10 year old German Shepard/Chow mix and our newest addition a 5 month old Chocolate Lab named Quik. She's just a big baby. They come inside occassionally but they are just too big for our small house so mostly they live in the huge home we've built for them outdoors.

5.  What is your most precious memory? 

Looking down on my children for the first time right after their birth.

6.  What is your most embarassing memory?

Not really sure I can pick just one, I have so many. I'm always putting my foot in my mouth. I really need a filter between it and my brain.
 
7.  If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing with your life? 

Writing has always been my dream. I've been making up stories since I was in grade school. If I couldn't write my next dream would have been to be a singer. I like to entertain.

8.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a “real” writer? 

When I got my first acceptance letter and signed my first book contract. Winning REC's 2007 F/F Author of the Year recently was a big validation for me as well.
 
9.  What is going on with your writing these days? 

I'm hard at work on three projects. A follow up to my favorite female couple, Kara and Elizabeth. A new GLBT BDSM idea I'm bouncing around and also I'm putting the finishes touches on an adult fairytale rewrite of Little Red Riding Hood. I have my first release from Torquere Press coming in April and a release from Phaze coming in May.
 
10.  What are your future goals for your writing?

Honestly? I'd love to be able to have my books found in all the big bookstores whether online or in print.

11.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you? 

Nothing in my life is typical, LOL I write whenever I can find the time though lately I've been doing it a lot. My muse is running rampant and refusing to be ignored. If the kids won't let me sit down at the computer then I find myself a notebook and write, then transcribe it later once everyone has gone to bed. It's double the work but I usually write better longhanded anyway. To save myself some abuse on my wrist I bought myself a dictation headset and software. 
 
12.  Why do you write? 

Because I have stories in my head that have to go somewhere and I enjoy it too. Having a reader tell me how much they liked something I wrote is the best feeling in the world.
 
13.  What writer most inspires you? Why? 

I prefer stories with erotic content which is why I write what I write. Any author that is willing to push the envelope is someone I can look up to. I have lots of favorites, not sure I can name which one inspires me most. Top three would be LKH, J.R. Ward and Kim Harrison for their paranormal erotic writing. They each have built such amazing worlds and the characters seem so real. You know the author is good when something happens to one of the characters and you feel like you've lost your best friend.
 
14.  How do you define your writing?

Definitely erotic, hopefully interesting and entertaining as well. My paranormal tends to be a lot darker than my F/F stories.

15.  In one sentence—what do you want people to say about your writing in fifty years?

Beth Wylde was one of the most imaginative and exciting erotic writers to ever come along. (It's a bit lofty but I figured if I'm going to dream I ought to dream big)

1.  What three words do you think describe you as a human being? 

This is a really tough question because not too many people think of themselves through the eyes of others.  Arrrrgh!  Here goes:  loyal to a fault, highly intuitive, hard working

 2.  How do you think others would describe you? 

I think they would use words like best friend when you need some to stand up for you, good in a crisis, highly creative and good at what she does no matter what. 

 3.  Please tell us what you are most passionate about outside of writing. 

Oh this one is at least easy to answer ' ANIMALS and writing, then computers and learning new things.  Always learning new things.  I grew up with a Dad who always said never let a day go by without learning some thing new – it keeps you humble and interested in the world around you.

4.      Do you have any pets?  If so, introduce us to them.

LOL do I have pets?  Yes, 22 of them.  Two horses, one 30 yrs old and one about to be 7 yrs old.  Yes I used to ride, but since cracking two ribs, that hasn't been in the cards.  Nonetheless I still care for them and spend time with them.  I have five dogs – a sissy but gorgeous Weim called Ghost, a joyful noise Dalmatian girlie named Deija Vue, a fur brat also called Madame Meltdown for her fits – a Jack Russell Terrier called Jackie Barker, a Blue Heeler/Red Heeler mix named Rip with a lovely disposition who came to me as a rescue who was beaten to bits and a Heeler/Shepherd with a 'tude called Chirp – why Chirp?  Because he lies under the couch and literally "chirps" at the rest to play with him.  Isn't that just the longest run on sentence you have ever seen?  I also have 18 cats, eight who share the indoors with me.  Most of them are rescues.  In fact more than half of my animals, including one horse is a rescue.  They are often the source of some really funny Tail Tales.

 5.  What is your most precious memory? 

My first dog a delightful girl Doberman named Echo who forever set the bar on loving dogs and how they give without end.

 6.  What is your most embarrassing memory?

Continually answering the phone and hanging up on a phone number that looked like it was a telemarketer – and – who turned out to be the Member of Parliament for my riding.  Oh boy!!!!

 7.  If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing with your life? 

Working with animals or computers or a lawyer or corrections person, or still in the media.

 8.  In two paragraphs or less write your obituary.

 Gone to walk with those she loved, honored and respected.  A heart that wept for things gone wrong, a smile that lit up people's lives, a hand that held the hearts of animals when they needed to cross the Bridge.  A friend whose time will never really end because she is IN our hearts.

 9.   Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a “real” writer? 

Actually no I can't, because I always did write from the time I was in high school until now.  It was like breathing – a part of me. 

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

I'm a freelance writer, ghostwriter.  There actually is a difference, although some think not.  Ghostwriting is in the trenches, 24/7/365, emergencies, short turn around times, very little guidance in some cases, and clients from the HOT place.  Ok this sounds like regular writing too – and it is, but in most cases you don't get the credit for it, someone else does.  BUT, it pays and it is good work for those who love a real challenge.  You don't often specialize and you do often get things you would NEVER take on if you were looking for an assignment.  Never dull, you learn things you never knew even existed – from weight loss with "natural" drugs (no such thing) to neuro-linguistic programming or from holistic dog medicine to affiliate marketing.  You also learn how to work fast and work smart and research cleverly.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing? 

More ghostwriting as it pays the bills.  I have thought about doing a recipe book of dog biscuits and in fact have a rough draft.  I also have a rough draft of a romance/mystery novel…..sitting in the dusty corners of my bookcase.  Will I try to work on it?  I might if I could recall where I was going to go with it in the first place. 

12.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

Anywhere from 8 to 12 hours and up to 4,000 words.  Could consist of 52 smaller to longer articles, a full chapter in an e book (often up to 5 thousand words), or any other projects that come up.  Including key word articles, web site content, magazine articles, e-books, e-mail campaigns, etc.  Sky is the limit.

13.  Why do you write?

I HAVE to and I think those reading this will understand that. It's a part of who we are and how we express ourselves.  And, I write the way I talk.  LOL…not always perfect grammar, but the meaning gets through and is persuasive.

14.    What writer most inspires you?  Why? 

Patricia Cornwell because she is SO accomplished, has marvelous detail in her books, great dialogue and a plot to kill for. Whoops – did I say that out loud?

15.    How do you define your writing?

Essential, like breathing.

16.    In one sentence—what do you want people to say about your writing in fifty years? 

Reads well, makes sense, is funny and it makes them THINK!  I actually do have a wicked sense of humor when I write (and am allowed to use it in articles) not to mention a sharp sense of justice for others.

17.  Can you tell us where to find more information on you? Website?  Blog? 

No actually I can't because the life of a ghostwriter is that our material is NOT seen as being written by US and we often do not know where the work ultimately ends up.  Not unless we stumble across it at some point.  At least this is how it is with me.  I get assignments and don't know WHO the client is or where it will go.  The client really doesn't matter in this instance, just the content does.

No, again because they are/were ghostwritten and the titles may have changed and I have no idea where they went.  I do keep copies for my records though.  So I do know what I DID write.

Information, good solid information in an easy to read manner done with humor.  And, solid research, I cross reference the heck out of my material. Something they can actually USE.

Basically that writing is my second soul that keeps me sane.  What I do will reflect how I feel about the material and it is done care and respect.  I may not like the subject or the content or the assignment, but the client deserves my best – always.  I keep going no matter what gets in the way and that includes computer crashes and no Internet service when you desperately need it to research.  I live in the boonies (in the country) and running to the library isn't an option as the nearest one is an hour away.  And me?  Try me you'll like me --- kidding!  I am loyal, like people, like to laugh, like to write, love animals and will do anything for them (I run a small animal rescue outfit here too and a memorial garden for pets), will give without thought to someone who needs something, and I don't expect much in return but an honest smile.  Okay I am done here.   J  This has been quite the exercise.   LOL Thanks for the great opportunity

She's got a "Type A personality" but always wears a smile.

I'd have to say my family.  I have two grown kids, and two teenagers at home, whom my husband, Rick, and I adopted from Russia and Kazakhstan. Guess the house got a little quiet after the older kids moved out.  Sure can't say that now, not with two teenagers. J  

4.  Do you have any pets?  If so, introduce us to them.

We have two dogs: Oscar, a 4 year-old Borkie (Bichon Frise/Yorkshire Terrier) we adopted from a pet shelter, and Mila, a 2 year-old Yorkiepoo.  Although we've had Oscar longer, it didn't take Mila long to take control of the house and our affections, and reign over our mild-mannered Oscar. 

5.  What is your most precious memory?

That's a difficult question, for I have so many.  I guess it's when we went to Russia to adopted our daughter, then 3-1/2, and I held her in my arms for the first time. She was so light and thin, and shaking with uncertainty.  Then I spoke the words I had learned in Russia to say, "I love you."  She looked up at me and gave me the most beautiful smile I've ever seen.

6.  What is your most embarrassing memory?

I can't help but laugh because, like the previous question, I can think of more than a few.  I think it was during my brother's wedding reception. He had more than a few drinks and always had a wicked sense of humor.  We were teasing each other and he pushed me into the pool.  I was wearing an expensive white dress, made of a sheer material that, once wet, revealed everything. Of course, I promptly got out of the pool and pushed my brother in, which resulted in lots of laughter and a roaring applause from the guests.

7.      If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing with your life?

Painting, printmaking or engraving.  I started drawing when I was eleven, studied art throughout high school and at the university, and even started my Masters in Fine Art until I realized I didn't want to teach it, but DO it.  My paintings are in private collections around the world, and I was even able to design the covers of my three published romances.
 

8.      In two paragraphs or less write your obituary.

OMG, that won't be easy, and I'm afraid it'll sound a bit droll, but here goes:

Linda Morelli was an award-winning author who has also been a professional artist, model, creative writer/editor, and a political fundraiser. A lover of history since she was a child, Linda's first novel is an historical romance, FIERY SURRENDER, set in France and in the American Colonies just before the Battle of Yorktown. Her second novel, SHADOW OF DOUBT, a contemporary romantic suspense set on the Mendocino Coast of California, reflects her love of mysteries. She carried this love into her third published novel, LANI'S CHALLENGE, a mystery-romance set in Washington, DC.

A member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) and Washington Romance Writers (WRW) since 1994, Linda served the Washington Romance Writers as Vice-President, Membership Chair, Retreat Chair, Web mistress, and as co-chair of the WRW's Annual Booksellers' Luncheon.  She has judged many national and regional romance writing contests, and was a permanent judge in Romance Writers of America's annual Golden Heart Contest.      

Linda's other memberships included the Authors' Coalition, World Romance Writers, NUW (Not the Usual Way) Authors Community and the Bethesda Writer's Center.  In addition to writing, she was an Associate Romance Editor with Port Town Publishing, a reviewer for My Shelf Reviews, and the Historical Editor for Gotta Write Network Online, where she provided monthly columns on historical links and writing, as well as interviews with such award-winning authors as Thea Devine, Susan King, Ruth Ryan Langan, Jaclyn Reding, and Linda Windsor.

She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters.

9.  Can you describe the time you realized you were indeed a "real" writer?
 

Yes. I was working at the National Republican Congressional Committee and a Congressman's aide knew I was writing a novel. He asked to see a copy, sent it to an agent who wanted to represent me. I knew then that my writing had some merit, although it was quite a few years later before that novel, FIERY SURRENDER, reached publication.

10.  What is going on with your writing these days?

At this point in time, I have two works in progress; one is a sensual historical time-travel set during the days of the Gold Rush, and the second is a non-fiction book about adopting our children from abroad. I'm also a monthly reviewer for MyShelf, which keeps me fairly busy reading current releases and aware of what's being sold in the marketplace. Unfortunately, I've had to put my writing on hold for a few months to take care of my mother and her finances.

11.  What are your future goals for your writing?

To continue writing and publishing, and to share my knowledge and experience via my website, Linda's Place - A Site for Romance Readers and Writers. I also keep my site updated with various links for authors and readers alike, as well as publish a quarterly newsletter and have occasional contests for my readers.

12.  Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

My goal is to write for at least 15 minutes per day...a goal that's fairly easy to keep. More often than not, I find that when I begin writing, I get on a roll and don't stop until hours have passed by.  There have even been days when I've written well into the wee hours of the morning, but that happens mostly on weekends.  Since I have two small dogs, I also manage to take them for walks every couple of hours, so I get my exercise and insure that I don't find any surprises in my house.

13.  Why do you write?

I write because I'm passionate about the art, and feel I need to relate the stories that insist on being told. I love how my characters develop, enjoy developing a concrete plot with satisfying endings.  I don't write to become famous or make lots of money, because most authors are wise not to give up their daytime jobs. I know that publishing is a hard industry.  Hundreds of books are submitted daily, but only one or two make it past the slush pile. That's why I strive to constantly I hone the craft of writing, constantly learn what I can about the industry and writing, and hope my next novel will see publication. It's also one of the reasons I think that belonging to a writers' group is so vitally important.

14.  What writer most inspires you?  Why?

I have to say it's Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, because he has gained the admiration and love of millions of readers. His stories, first appearing in the Strand Magazine, have been made into movies (though several later movies were emulations of his work, written by others).  I did tell you I like mysteries, didn't I? J

15.  How do you define your writing?

I'd say it's definitely character-driven, especially since I write romances.  I prefer to delve deep into a character's fears and wishes, his or her needs and desires, so my romances tend to deal more with emotions, along with strong plots and characters.

16.  In one sentence-what do you want people to say about your writing in fifty years?

That I was a darn good writer whose books have been read over and over again.

I am passionate about my writing and the stories I tell, which is probably why I have received several awards for my books.  I want readers to enjoy the stories I tell, have the characters seem real to them, and have readers wanting to read more.
